Junior Pennant Round 5
Hi Members, Round 5 of Junior Pennant arrived last Sunday, a bright warm day, at last.
The Birdies, keen to finish with a flourish and the Eagles playing to build on their late season momentum.
The Eagles were up against Settlers Run and we were off to a solid start.
Dylan, completing a commanding display 6/5, soon followed by Ollie Watson, his first win for the team 5/4. Awesome to see Ollie get back from 2 down early and apply the accelerator.
Archer Malone, in his debut, was in next. Sadly, 5/4 down.
The match now poised, Lachie came in with a win, but Coops went down swinging. There was only one match remaining.
It came down to the final hole and, unfortunately, Will couldn’t hold on, so a 3 all draw to the Eagles.
This left the Eagles finishing mid table. A couple of twists our way may have made a difference, and the team can bank a lot of Matchplay experience for the future.
The Birdies were up against the Southern Shearers.
In quick succession, Josh and Searsy were in, both 6/5 up, followed by Zac, down 5/4.
Then Pooly was beaten 3/2, but Charlie got things moving in the right direction with a 2/1 win.
With only Kai left on course, he fought hard and secured a halved match.
So a 3.5-2.5 win to the Birdies.
Great stuff Birdies, undefeated for the season, finishing, not only on top of their area but seeded in first position for the finals campaign.
A testament to the skill and focus these young members have brought to table this year.
The Quarter Finals will be played at Yarra Yarra, this Sunday the 9th of November, it would be great to see some of our members out supporting the team as they commence their finals series.
As always, the thank you’s. To the pro shop and club staff. Without your support the day would not function.
Members and supporters, the fact that you give your time to show support is amazing. You just don’t see it at many clubs.
The caddies. You consistently put your hands up to advise and support these young members. Will never be able to thank you enough. Special mention to Mr Joe Bray, who stepped up this week to manage the Eagles, as the regular guy took a holiday. I owe you one Mr Bray, sir.
Of course, the players. We wouldn’t be here if you weren’t prepared to commit your time and efforts to the game and to each other. It’s a genuine pleasure to be involved in watching you all work together and grow into good people and fine golfers.
Thanks, The Manager.
