Vale JC

JOHN CURRIE, a reflection.

The news of John Currie’s (JC) passing has given pause to reflect on his effect on us at Rossdale.

A brief look around the clubrooms will give you the bare bones of his service and golfing record, but it cannot tell the full story of his service to Rossdale.

The bestowing of life membership by unanimous vote is a fair indication of the full story. Rossdale, “The friendly club” and JC epitomised that ethos. If I may, I would relate the story of my first meeting with him as an example.

A new member and the club was attempting to revitalise its dining experience (I’m glad that worked) and I had talked my darling wife into “supporting the club”  We had booked a table for 2, but as I was holding the chair to seat my wife, John came over and introduced himself and asked how we were.  After a brief chat, JC invited us to join a table of about 10 long term members.  Many friendships were started that evening (and sadly there are many empty chairs from that night)

This, simply, is how I see JC’s service to Rossdale, a prime example of what we boast of as “Rossdale culture”.

I will miss his chats, his just being there to fix something (I don’t work out of my postcode, mate), his depreciating (though so proud) use of GRANDPA and his unfailing good humour, even when vehemently disagreeing with the latest edict from board or captain.

Thankyou Mr John Currie, life member of the Rossdale Golf Club, for your service, your companionship and your friendship.  In closing, I’m positive he would ask you to fill your divots, fix your pug marks and rake the bunkers.

Cheers

Michael Oldham

Twilight Competition

Twilight competition returned last night with 30 people teeing it up.

Michael Eddington won himself his choice of Adidas shirt with a great score of 21 points on a count back from Antony Thow.

Twilight is back again tonight so we look forward to seeing you all down at the club.

Just a reminder the member with the best 10 rounds over the twilight period will win themselves  $500 on to their house account.
