Junior Pennant

Hi all, apologies for missing the last couple of weeks. Naughty manager.

Anyway, last Sunday 6/11 saw the final round of Junior Pennant for 2020. After a hard couple of weeks, with depleted numbers due to school exams, we were able to welcome back some seasoned players and our scores reflected this.

Another tough day weather wise was presented to us but the team, once again, went out and played in the manner that we have come to expect and admire.

Our top 6 scores for the day were: Flynn Curry-38, Brady Pollard-38, Tom Alvarez (welcome back)-37, Tyler Pollard-37, Matilda Dunn-36 and Toby Hynes-31.   This left us sitting 3rd in our region (again) and missing out on finals.

I would like to thank these players and the rest of the 2020 team Connor Oldham, Luke Fitchett, Justin Davies, jack Illott, Toby Colleridge, Zane Wilson and Mia Spence for giving their Sundays to the club and competition for the last 5 weeks. I hope you had fun and I look forward to seeing the growth and improvement in both your golf and yourselves. I truly thank you for your efforts.

This is not a one man show so, again, I show my thanks and appreciation to the staff at the club. In the Pro shop Mike, Elyssa, Pete and Ben (truly Ben I would have been lost without your help and guidance) and in the Bar, particularly Gerry and Carol for their help and snacks for the team. Also, the members for their kindness and consideration to what is a very young group, especially Fred Ford and JT for the time they gave the group all season, I thank you more than these simple words can show.

I will be arranging the Tim Cogger Perpetual Caddies/Players day sometime in the New Year so stay tuned, there may be a slight change due to the format used this year, but the team deserves the Thank you day (Billy Warrener, we need the trophy back)

Once again and finally Thank You all.

The Manager

News from the Pro Shop Staff

We would like to wish Michael Moore, Director of Golf, all the best in the upcoming PGA Club Professionals Championships played at Sandhurst North Course this coming Monday. If Michael is successful in making it through to the top 5-6, he will move onto the Final which is played in Hamilton Island in 2021, we wish him all the best and hope he can bring back the trophy.

Good luck Michael.

Ben Paine, our quiet achieving Trainee Professional has been leaving the other trainee professionals in the dust with some outstanding scoring and winning several of his trainee professional events. Ben is currently leading the Victoria Trainee Order of Merit; this is an outstanding achievement and something that the club is very honoured to acknowledge.

Elissa Lal has certainly been busy with all her coaching commitments, coffee clubs, wedding and managing through her pregnancy. As most of you may have been aware, Elissa got married to her long-time partner Ruben at Rossdale Golf Club last Saturday. Elissa and Ruben are expecting a baby late February 2021, sadly this does mean Elissa will be taking some maternity leave for a minimum of 6 months but will be eager to return to Rossdale as soon as she and the baby are settled. Elissa She will be coaching up until Mid-January, please note; no gift vouchers will be sold for Elissa’s lesson packages due to her upcoming leave.

Rossdale Women’s team made it through to the final in the 2019 VW Scramble, due to the Pandemic this was delayed until Monday 7th December 2020, which was played at Huntingdale Golf Club.

Michael Moore was the Team professional who was accompanied Jennie Howe, Robyn Charnley, Jacque Klein, Cheryl Disher (alternate for Joy Adams), The team was off to a tough day condition wise, Robyn Charnley who was the first to tee off approaching with 1st Tee battling the elements of hail, rain and high winds. This did not change for most of the day with the weather conditions certainly not in the golfer’s favour. Rossdale teams was leading the charge for most of the afternoon, with only two groups to go and the title looking in our favour, it was the second last card that through the team off the winning podium. Michael had heard the group had just eagled the 15th Hole, birdie 16, birdie 17, and then it come down to the last hole, they had a 15-footer for saving par on the last to win over Rossdale by .5 of a shot.

Commiserations to the Team but what a absolutely fantastic achievement to get that far.
