Course Care
After a month of focusing on course care it is disappointing to see the photo on the right.
As we are members only at the moment we only have ourselves to blame for unfilled divots and pitch marks which are un repaired.
The picture on the right is from last Saturday and there is no excuse for it. Causing damage to the course like this will see you face a disciplinary meeting with the Match Committee.
If you do hit your ball on another green, you must take a drop, this is a free drop, you must not hit your ball off the green.
Please remember to do your bit, feel all the divots you see and fix to pitch marks per hole.

The Rossdale Ladies
Its time to introduce you to our third longest lady member. Gaye Waite. Gaye joined Rossdale on 10/12/75 some 45 years ago. Gaye is a country girl having been born and bred in Wycheproof in the mallee district in Victoria. Being a left-hander the only club that was available to her at the time was a 5 iron, so playing the sandscrapes seems to have given her the best start for a long passion for golf.
Moving to Mentone with 2 small children whom she put into “child minding” she joined the public courses of Sandringham and Moorabbin. Two good friends in Patti Watkins and Pam Walker conviced Gaye to join Rossdale with them. Starting as a reserve as there was quite a waiting list. On joining the Ladies competition Gaye started her journey on a 27 handicap and then slowly chipped her way down to her best of 18 just making it into A Grade. Dulcie Coombes was the Lady Captain and Lorna Steele was the Lady President and she recalls that if you were invited to play with the Captain or other committee members it was a privilege. Gaye played Pennant and Interclub golf representing Rossdale for many years and you will find her name on a Rossdale Bowl, on the honour boards twice as B Grade champion as well as 1 Hole-in-one. Gaye considers her drive as her most advantageous shot.
The Annual concerts involving many hours of practice beforehand is still talked about today with most of the long term ladies, along with the times away playing golf on the Murray courses, some of Gayes most fond memories. Gaye still occassionally pulls out the clubs to play 9 holes with the Monday girls and looks forward to joining the girls at Wednesday lunch.
Thanks Gaye for sharing your golfing memories with us and for being a devoted member of the Rossdale ladies, helping us to remain the warm and friendly club that is our reputation.
