Divots

Dear Members,

I am sure you will agree that the course has never been in better condition.

Travis and the staff have done a great job in having the course ready for your return.

After being back open for just over 2 weeks it has been very disappointing to see the amount of divots left unfilled out on the course, like the one pictured below.

We have been strictly members only through this period, therefor we only have our selves to blame. I want to remind everyone to carry a sand bucket and not only fill your divot but if you see another unfilled divot, please fill this also. This week we will have our new sand bins placed on each par 3,  we ask that you fill your divot with these after your shot, using your golf club head to get the sand out.

As of the 1st of June we will be starting a campaign Course Appreciation Month, each week will focus on a different aspect of course care with our first week being divots. Filling divots, repairing your pitch mark, raking the bunker are all simple etiquette which we should all do automatically.

These simple tasks will ensure the quality of the course stays at the highest standard.

Regards

Michael Moore | Director of Golf

Our New Head Teaching Professional

We would like to welcome Elissa Orr who officially starts with us on the 10th of June, you will see her mostly on the driving range and short game area, However you will be able to meet her in the Pro Shop. Her lesson availability is below and also a brief bio from her.

I cut my teeth and honed my skills as a touring professional before discovering my real passion within the golf industry – teaching.

For the past 4 years I have been working full time as a golf coach – focusing my attention on customer goals and satisfaction, while continuing to work on my skills as a teacher.

I draw on my skills and knowledge as an elite golfer on tour for 7 years, to know what it takes to improve your golf.

Since switching my focus to teaching full time, I have established a strong client base to which I am keen to continue building upon.

My coaching philosophy is ‘simple communication for maximum effect.” I use state of the art coaching devices to help the golfer better understand their games – from V1 Golf for video analysis, to CAPTO 3D analysis for putting to help my clients dig deeper into the patterns that are creating their inconsistencies.

Having recently been appointed Golf Australia, Victorian High Performance Coach, I am excited by the opportunity that affords me to coach at an elite level, Having said that I also revel in the opportunity to start with a beginner to help mould their skills from a clean slate.

My role as Victorian High Performance Coach will allow me the opportunity to work alongside Dean Kinney (VIS Coach) and all of the State’s best amateur golfers within the State team program combined with much of time on the range with Club golfers.

Playing Background;

2012 – I completed my PGA Traineeship where I decided to take on playing full time as a career, I enjoyed playing all over the world but in 2015 -2016 I stepped back to playing part time to focus more on coaching.

– 6-time Commonwealth Golf Club Champion

– 2-time Champion of Champions of Victoria

– 5-time Victorian Women’s State Team Member

What’s in a name?

Behind the seemingly simple and modest name of our golf club lies a rich little tapestry of local history.

Many members will be aware that Rossdale is built on land that was owned by the Ross family (Rupert Vernon Ricks Ross, 1894 – 1974).

This is where Ross Street just off Sixth Avenue gets its name.

What about the “dale” part? This is where it gets a bit interesting. In 1880 and 1881 horse trainer James Robert Cooke trained the back to back winner of the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington. The horse was called Aspen. In 1891 he opened a racecourse and named it after his beloved horse and Aspendale racecourse was established. Cooke was also a motor car racing enthusiast and he built a motor racing circuit inside the horse racing track. In 1891 a train station was established to bring both types of racegoers to the venue. The train station was originally called Aspendale Park Racecourse and was only renamed to Aspendale in1905. This is where the suburb of Aspendale gets its name,

When our golf course was built in 1948 it either adjoined or was adjacent to the racecourse – and hence the name Rossdale.

Three of the other local streets around the club – Lincoln Parade, Marabou Place and Gothic Road – all situated near Ross Street – are named after other successful horses of that era. It’s no wonder a number of our members like a bet on the ponies – it’s in our history.
