Meet the Members!

Rossdale has always been regarded as Melbourne’s friendliest golf club. We think that’s because Rossdale has the best members. As such, we thought we would take the time in the coming weeks to introduce all our new members to the wonderful characters and long-standing playing groups that make this club such a vibrant place.

I would personally like to take the time to thank Phil O’Gorman for this fantastic idea. Great work mate! Next week we will start with the Thursday morning “skins” group.

We encourage all are members to actively engage with these social groups to get the most out of their membership.

70th Anniversary & Captain’s Night @ Rossdale

The 2019 Captain’s Night will be held in conjunction with the 70th anniversary of the Rossdale Golf Club on Saturday the 21st of September.  The night will include a range of entertainment including a ten piece New Orleans jazz band, canapes, two courses and an unlimited drinks package, all of which will tie in with the night’s 1920s underground speakeasy theme. We hope to see you there. It sure will be a fantastic evening celebrating both the captain and the proud history of the club.

Inspired by the Deep South theme, the menu is announced as follows!

Food & Wine Night a Raging Success!

Our first of the four Food and Wine nights was a fantastic success. Those in attendance were presented with a series of international wines perfectly matched with an exceptional 5 course menu prepared by our very own three hatted head chef, Patrick Bowring.

After the raving reviews received from the first night, the second Food & Wine Night is expected to sell out early! This night will celebrate Australian wine with another perfectly matched menu that will be announced shortly!

From The Captain

Members please be advised that bunker rakes are:

  • To be left in the middle of the bunker
  • On the flat surface
  • Facing the direction of play

Many members would be aware that the golf course has had its fair share of stress in the past 12 months. Since scarifying and a prolonged period of very dry weather the fairways have had a tough time. With winter slowing down growth some areas of the fairways can appear brown/bare despite the root system being healthy. We expect the fairways to improve as the ground temperature rises over the coming weeks.

Currently the grounds staff are working hard to present the golf course each week in very playable condition but as members we can do a lot more to assist. Divots on the fairways are being left unfilled. Please ensure that your sand bucket you carry is used often. If you see a divot please fill it! Plug marks on the greens cannot repair themselves and a divot tool is not an expensive item to have in your pocket.

You may have noticed ropes and staked areas are in place to protect zones. Please do not remove ropes or stakes as they immovable obstructions, relief may be taken under rule 16.1(a). 

With the approaching spring and a promising growing season ahead, please look after the ground you play on and appreciate the work that the ground staff are doing. The course team recently finished renovating all bunkers on the course, so please be sure to rake them after you play out of them. The upcoming weeks will be spent paying attention to the teeing areas and surrounds. The course team will be edging, weeding and levelling paths as well as maintaining surrounding garden beds.

Monthly Medal Winner!

Fresh off her runner up finish in the Winter Shield, Maureen O’Flaherty has won the Ladies August Medal by two shots over Karin Schmidt with a nice round of 71 in some tough conditions! It’s safe to say Maureen has found some nice form this Winter!

Well done to Gina Thorne & Keiko Egan who came 3rd in the medal, each scoring 74.

Rossdale Cup Quarter Finalists

Well done to Geoff Charnley and Jason Ling for earning a spot into the Rossdale Cup Final! Last weekend saw a strong win by Jason Ling over Aaron Francis while Geoff Charnley just edged out Terry Berger in a tight one!

Corporate Cup 2019

Entries are now open for the 2019 Corporate Cup. This is best day of the year for golf, food and beverage.

Bookings will only be accepted with an upfront payment due to the high demand.

There will be a guest speaker for the night, and we promise it is an event not to be missed.

Short Game Masterclass

This Friday the 16th of August PGA Teaching Professional Peter Manzie will host the second of many Master Class’s. Each session will cover different aspects of the game and will ensure you get your swing in shape heading into Spring.

This week will cover the fundamentals of the short game and how we can get a consistent strike and control with our chipping and pitching.

The clinics are capped at 6 people to ensure each person gets the attention required, all bookings can be made online via the timesheet portal.

25 Year Trophy

The 25 Year Trophy is being played this Sunday the 18th August. Members with 25 years or more service to the club are all eligible for this special event which will be a Stableford event held in conjunction with the competition of the day.

Additional Member News

On Friday the 23rd of August, there will be a Mexican Theme Night which will be held on the upper deck! It’s only $20 per head for a full Mexican buffet including Brisket, Spicy Grilled Chicken Thighs, Corn on the Cob with Smoked Paprika Butter, Tortillas, Coleslaw, Salads and condiments.
