Rossdale E-News – 10 July 2019

11th July 2019 - Rossdale News

Meet the Rossdale team!

In recent years we have worked hard to attract highly skilled people into all areas of the business to ensure that we are constantly increasing member services. Internally, we believe that it is the people in our club that give us a competitive advantage over all other clubs in the bayside area. As such, we are thrilled to have such a dynamic, professional and friendly group of individuals leading our operational departments. Since the beginning of 2016 we have happily welcomed over 200 new members to Rossdale Golf Club. Many of whom may not have yet been introduced to the department team leaders that work hard each week to make Rossdale a unique environment. Therefore, I’d like to take the time to introduce to you each of our professionals.

Last week we introduced Senior Bar Supervisor, Gerard Ryan. This week we are pleased to introduce Peter Manzie our Golf Operations Professional.
In the coming weeks we will introduce more of the great staff that make Rossdale an exciting golf club on the rise.

General Manager

Golf Operations Professional- Peter Manzie

A life as a Golf Professional wasn’t always the goal for Pete as a kid, in fact Baseball was his passion at an early age, having represented Victoria as a junior until the age of 15. At the age of 16 his dad signed him up to be a Junior Member of the Southern Golf Club, as any new golfer would know this lead to an obsession of trying to get better and better, having spent every weekend and most days after school at the Club, within 6 months of starting the game Pete had his HCP down to 4.
Spending so much time at Southern, the Club Professional at the time offered him a job picking up range balls, washing golf carts and cleaning clubs etc. it seemed a good starting point for someone wanting to be at the Club anyway.

He spent the next few years playing amateur tournaments, representing Southern in pennant and working in the Proshop. At the age of 21 Pete commenced his 3 year Traineeship at Southern which would ultimately lead to him being a qualified PGA Professional, he soon realised his future career would likely not be playing golf for a living but his knowledge of golf / coaching and business could allow him to be successful in the industry.

Peter competed his 3-year Traineeship at Southern in December 2009. In 2010 he successfully applied for The Head Golf Professional role at The Eastern Golf Club in Doncaster, after 2.5 years managing the Golf Shop and coaching the members of Eastern an opportunity arose back at Southern to buy into a contracted business with his friend / business partner, they were given two 3 year contracts of which the final 2.5 years Peter operated the business on his own as his business partner relocated to QLD. After the second 3 year contract ended in February 2019 the Club decided to take the Golf Shop ‘in house’ where for the past 5 months Pete remained working for the Club as The Golf Operations Manager.

So how did we end up at Rossdale, well similar to our chef Pat, Pete also first met Andrew at the Mentone Hotel all be it as a patron, so it seems Andrew has been recruiting well before his time as Manager of Rossdale started.

The variety within the ‘Golf Operations’ role appealed to Pete as well as the Club’s reputation for being one of the ‘friendliest golf clubs’ around, he hopes to bring many of the skills he has learnt to Rossdale and can’t wait to get to know the Members and hopefully help many of them reach their golfing goals.

Pete starts on Monday the 8th July , so be sure to say ‘hi’
