Important Members Update – Aspendale Sporting Precinct Concept
Dear Members,
As many of you may be aware, last week the club hosted a very important community event to discuss the potential of a future Sporting Precinct including Rossdale Golf Club as an ongoing Private Golf Club right here in Aspendale.
Please click on the link below to review the full presentation.
Copies will also be available from the office, and on our website.

Given the arctic conditions on the night, the meeting was very well attended by over 300 people from our members, the local community, the leaders of all of our bordering sporting clubs, and representatives of both local and State Government.
This meeting marked a very important step in a possible long term strategy to sure up the future of our club.
The aim of this meeting was:
- Present an exciting concept of a future Sporting Precinct as a solution to many of the current Rossdale, local sporting club and community issues that we are facing
- Discuss and obtain feedback about the concept, and involve people in a constructive conversation about “what could be”
- Explain to locals the current situation that Rossdale finds itself, and to explain the importance of the upcoming rezoning of land along 6th avenue
- Pass a motion (below) to ask Council to get serious about helping both Rossdale and the local community urgently if they want to retain a golf course in the local area in line with Kingston Council Golf Course Policy (Source:8.4 Golf Course Policy)
Present at the meeting were key members of local council including Geoff Gledhill and John Ronke, our local State Parliament member Tim Richardson, and a number of other important council and sporting club representatives including Ted Turner from the AFL. Our current Mayor Tamsyn Bearsley was a last minute apology due to health issues, but is fully supportive of the Sporting Precinct working party direction.
The key motion discussed and overwhelming passed on the night was as follows:
Kingston Council actively pursues the development of a whole of community sporting, cultural and environmental hub by:
- Working with Rossdale Golf Club to retain the majority of the existing footprint of land
- Working with the local community clubs including Rossdale GC to develop a visionary plan to be enacted to allow for future community sporting, cultural and environmental needs within the Rossdale footprint and associated areas.
Why was it important to pass this motion? This now means that our council representatives can officially put forward a recommendation at the next council meeting to allocate funds to developing a master plan for the area that includes Rossdale. This is a necessary first step before submitting any requests to State or Federal Government for future funding proposals.
Please take the time to read the attached presentation and understand that, whilst this is a 5 to 10 year strategy for the club the Sporting Precinct concept, involving collaboration with our bordering clubs and the local community, is a real and exciting prospect for our Club.
Please also note that the work taking place on this project is in parallel to that of the Patterson River Merger discussions. We expect that this opportunity will come in to play down the track when decisions about which location is ideally suited to the future model of a possible merged entity will be located. Please also note that this in no way impacted by the existing sale of land along 6th Avenue.
If you have any queries in relation to the Sporting Precinct, please contact the office, or feel free to discuss with any of our current Board members.
